There are a number of factors that give rise to the disturbing statistics of fatalities and serious injuries that occur on this particular holiday weekend.
Alcohol related accidents are certainly at the top of the list, as well as heavy traffic and driver inattention. Drivers rushing to make appointments are another.
We need to exercise caution when entering intersections, especially in New York City. The noise, traffic, and use of radio, hand held devices, etc., are all reasons that we sometimes are not focused on the road. Pedestrian deaths are at an all time high in New York and our very own “Street of Death” is Hylan Boulevard.
Please take your time when traveling this weekend. Whatever your plans may be, it is not worth speeding when you run the risk of causing (or suffering from) a serious injury or death.
