Jury Selection – An important civic duty

Most people cringe when they receive a notice to appear at Jury Duty.  It is a civic duty that interrupts our work and family activities, hence it invokes anxiety.

However, when we appear at the courthouse to answer ready for duty, it becomes clear that being a part of the jury system enables our Rule of Law to remain strong.  Without the Rule of Law, disputes would go unsolved.  Our community would be hung up on unsolved disagreements if there were no jurors to decide them.

All citizens, including judges, lawyers, doctors, civil servants, self employed persons, etc, are obliged to comply with a Notice of Jury Duty. There are exemptions for those who are permanently disabled, however the disability must be proven (e.g., doctor’s note of disability).

If you are seriously injured in an accident and an insurance company is not offering you any form of compensation, your recourse is to take your case to court.  You are constitutionally protected in your right to be judged by a jury of your peers.  It is an age old right that is in our US Constitution.  Imagine if you were stuck with a decision of an insurance adjuster that denied you any monetary compensation for your loss?? Without a right to jury trial, you might languish and suffer financially.  Our world would be ruled by insurance companies who consider you nothing more than a mere claim number.

We need to keep in mind that the support of all members of our community keeps our court system running efficiently and preserves our important rights.  If a house were on fire and we all stood around and watched (versus all of us picked up a bucket of water to put the fire out) then that spells disaster!

A lawyer who has trial experience and understands the particular issues of a personal injury matter can serve you if you have been seriously or gravely injured in an accident. The Law Office of Charles DeStefano is able to take care of your legal needs if you have been injured in an accident.
